If you run a business here, you have probably already heard the letters EET floating around. On September 2, 2026, the Ministry of Finance launched an official website, eet.gov.cz, and a dedicated hotline, because apparently there was so much confusing information going around that they needed to set the record straight themselves.
So let’s do the same here, without the government website menu maze.
What EET 2.0 actually is
EET 2.0 is a new electronic sales record system. It is planned to start on January 1, 2027. Once it is live, certain payments you receive, mainly cash, card, QR code and meal vouchers taken in person, will need to be reported to the tax office in real time.
This is not the old EET system from a few years ago. This is a new law, still going through parliament, and it has not been approved yet. Everything below is the current plan, not a done deal.
Who this touches
If you invoice clients by bank transfer only, this barely affects you. If you take cash or card payments in person, for example you do treatments, sell products, or run a small studio, this is the part of your business you need to watch.
The one exception worth knowing
If you are on the flat tax regime in the first band, meaning your income is under 1 million CZK a year, you may be able to skip EET entirely by paying an extra 1400 CZK a month instead. This is called EET OFF. It sounds like a good trade for a lot of small freelancers, but do the math for your own numbers before assuming it is the cheaper option.
There are also a few sweeteners built in, like a one time 5000 CZK tax credit for your first year of using the system, and tips being exempt from tax and contributions.
What is happening right now
The technical documentation for cash register software has been out since June 2026. Testing environments open through the rest of the year. And the Ministry is running an in person roadshow, with stops in Prague, Liberec, Pardubice, Jihlava, Karlovy Vary, Plzeň, Brno and Cheb, running through November.

What to actually do right now
Nothing drastic. The law has not passed yet, so buying new hardware today would be premature. What you can do is start paying attention, especially if you take in person payments, so you are not scrambling in December.
